Senior Vice President, Commercial P&C Claims Management
Mitch Harless joined Stephens in 2016 as Senior Vice President of Claims Management with 30-plus years of property and casualty claim experience. In this role, he provides primary support for claims management and claim advocacy services to the Houston office as part of Stephens Insurance’s claims management team in the Little Rock home office. Prior to joining Stephens, he was the South Zone, Claim Executive for the Client Engagement Team with AIG’s Houston office. In this role for 10 years, he was a resource to insureds, brokers, underwriting and the claim department for all claim related issues. Additionally, unique to the insurance industry, he drew on skills and claim expertise to resolve service issues and complex disputes. He routinely facilitates and presents at the annual Energy Client Summit.
Harless began his insurance claims career in Lafayette, LA handling multi-lines casualty claims including statutory and USL&H workers compensation, Jones Act, general liability and auto liability. Prior to joining AIG, he spent 17 years with St. Paul Fire and Marine as part of the dedicated upstream oil and gas business unit where he was the national manager for all claims arising out of the O&G underwriting unit. This specialized unit was recognized for its expertise on general liability and operators extra expense claims. During this period, Harless gained considerable experience with the interaction of contractual liability coverage and indemnification/anti-indemnification. Following an honorable four year enlistment in the United States Marine Corps, Harless used the G.I. Bill to attend and graduate from McNeese State University located in Lake Charles, LA before embarking on his insurance career.
