Philosophy & Approach

Bentley and his team, Phillip Worthen and John Kornet, provide investment management to high net worth families and businesses. When speaking about his approach honed over his 20 years in the industry, Bentley says “Our investment approach focuses on building portfolios that mitigate risk and decrease volatility but also provide acceptable returns for each client. We focus on a macro view of the economy and events that may impact portfolio so we can make adjustments to our investment thesis.” 

The Blackmon Group is supported by a client service team with over 25 of years of experience in the financial services industry:

  • Valerie Edwards, a registered sales assistant since 2004, oversees accounting matters and client service;
  • Jordan Bauer, CPA, is responsible for performance reporting, client service, and tax-related questions; and
  • Danny Russell, a registered sales assistant, is responsible for client service.

Experience & Education

Bentley graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting Business Administration and Economics. He received his MBA from Webster University. 

He continued his studies and became a Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA). The certification from the CFA Institute includes ethical and professional standards, quantitative methods, economics, financial reporting and analysis, corporate finance, analysis of Investments, and portfolio management and analysis.

In addition, to hone his financial planning skills, Bentley became a Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®).  The certification from the CFP® board includes insurance planning and risk management, employee benefits planning, investment planning, retirement planning, and estate planning. 

Bentley completed the necessary requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant; his license is currently inactive.  Bentley is also graduate of Stephens University, an advanced wealth management program offered through Wake Forest University.

Prior to joining Stephens in 2003, Bentley was a Senior Vice President and financial advisor at Dean Witter & Co. and its successor, Morgan Stanley, where he advised clients on investment management.  Bentley has received the Stephens Leadership Circle award every year since 2004 in recognition for excellence in wealth management.
